MT 007 Herr Alexander 1847 NY CIty...RARE....Listed in Kuethe Book as MT 007 Magicians have also been some of the top money earners in the past, as illustrated by this article in the May 10, 1851 issue of the Peoples Press, printed in Salem, North Carolina:
"Wealth of Showman
Two million six hundred and seventy thousand dollars, it is said, have been made by showmen in the last ten years, making an average for each of one hundred and seventy thousand dollars. The following is a list of what each man has make, commencing with P. T. Barnum, the richest showman in the world, he having make in the last eight years over $800,000; Jenny Lind is worth $500,000, not withstanding she has given over half a million in charity; ... Blitz, the Magician, $50,000; ...Wyman, the prince of Magicians and Necromancers, $35,000; ... Herr Alexander, the juggler and artist, $25,000; Mons. Adrian, the French magician, $20,000 ... "
Alexander Herrmann (born 1843 - died 1896). Even today, when an artist paints, draws or photographs the character of the magician, it is usually the likeness of Alexander Herrmann which is depicted. The demonic man with top hat, tails and a cape, wearing an impish smile wedged between a dark mustache and pointed goatee, was probably the greatest magical showman of the 1800's, maybe even of all time. He alone took his character of the magician out onto the stage, and made that character a recognizable showbiz figure to all.
