Harry Jansen was born in Denmark and came to the US in 1888 at the age of six. In 1907 he opened a magic shop in Chicago in partnership with Charles Halton. He went on tour four years later, but he did not attain lasting fame until 1923, when Howard Thurston hired him to run one of Thurston's road companies under the name "Dante".
